Four short days is all we get to fill our freezers with the kind of local, organic, free range, grass fed protein that would make a Portland foodie soil their skinny jeans. Add kids and work and other commitments to the mix and four days becomes three.
Three days isn't much time for things to come into perfect alignment and this year we came up short.
Elk sign was everywhere. But no elk. So we give thanks to the spawning Chinook and Mountain Quail and Blacktail that kept us in good company. And we look ahead to next season, where we'll vow to scout earlier, hike harder, and go longer.
